COMPREHENSIVE ASSISTANCE, REFORMATION AND ENHANCED SUPPORT FOR SURVIVORS OF TRAFFICKING (CARE) PROJECT
International Needs Ghana in partnership with UNICEF initiated the Comprehensive Assistance, Reformation and Enhanced Support for Survivors of Trafficking (CARE) project from January 2021 to December 2022 which sought to reduce the high rate of Child Trafficking and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) within the communities along the Volta Lake and enhance case management support for survivors of child trafficking and SGBV.
INGH collaborated with Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) and the Department of Social Welfare to arrest 19 perpetrators.
53 cases were referred to DOVVSU/ Police for further investigation. Out of the above number, 33 survivors of trafficking and 6 survivors of SGBV have been provided with case management services. 19 perpetrators were arrested by the police for further action. 2 perpetrators were convicted and sentenced to 8 and 7-years jail term respectively.
