Akosua sees a brighter future after her rescue from child abuse.
At age 8, she was made to work as an adult and was threatened and beaten by a distant relative she lived with. This made her lose interest in her life; going to school was not an option for her.
However, the intervention of International Needs Ghana in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development has set Akosua free.
Akosua has gained self-confidence and is now enjoying her childhood life. She now trusts those around her and has ideas on what a birthday is. Akosua wants to be a medical doctor.
Akosua is one of the many persons rescued under the Growing Up Free Project, an intervention being implemented by International Needs Ghana with support from Free the Slaves and funding from the US State Department under the Ghana Government and the USA Government Child Protection Compact.
